Mary King v. Columbia School District and Russell Hardesty

RPS Partner who tried case: Priscilla F. Gunn

We represented: Russell Hardesty

Venue: United States District Court, Western District of Missouri

Facts: Plaintiff, a substitute teacher at Columbia Public Schools, alleged that Dr. Hardesty, the principal of the school, used racial slurs, and prematurely terminated her assignment at the school working with a student because of her race. Plaintiff is African American, and she states defendant commented to her that African American students work better with teachers of a different race. She further claimed that defendant refuses to give her assignments working with home bound students. Defendant denies making racial slurs, making racially discriminatory comments, or engaging in racially discriminatory conduct. Plaintiff's assignment with the student naturally came to an end, and others were more qualified for home bound teaching. Jury found for the defense.
